Dream Declaration Activity -Little Angels School, Kharagpur, West Bengal India
Written by: Juliet Karmakar Mondol | World Dream Day, India
In a nurturing Montessori school, one compassionate dance teacher voiced a remarkable truth: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” This heartfelt sentiment set the tone for a transformative session where teachers gathered to share and declare their dreams, creating a space of vulnerability and hope. This school was established by an incredible Indian woman who gracefully bore the burdens of responsibility while holding her head high, symbolizing resilience amidst life’s challenges.
The session revealed a profound insight: you don’t need to be financially secure or have a strong support system to reach your goals. What truly matters is the unwavering belief in your worth, especially during tough times when life feels heavy, and self-doubt creeps in.
During the dream declaration activity, each teacher was invited to reflect on their aspirations and the steps they envision taking to realize them. Many shared their deeply personal journeys of balancing their passions with the important work of spreading culture, education, and happiness to those around them. One teacher, for example, spoke tenderly about her dedication to teaching dance to enthusiastic students at an accessible rate, emphasizing her commitment to sharing joy through movement.
She mentioned how the art of dance can express profound narratives. Just like in “Shyama,” a beautiful piece by the esteemed Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the exploration of individual struggles against societal norms speaks to us all, reminding us of the ongoing pursuit of happiness. This connection resonates especially with modern Indian women who aspire to fulfil their dreams while navigating the complexities of everyday life.
The teaching of different dance postures, as seen in “Chandalika,” also illustrates a journey of self-discovery. Through persistence and the transformative experience of performing on stage, students can uncover their true potential. This journey not only allows them to connect with their feelings but also fosters a sense of belonging within society, weaving their stories into the collective human experience.
The teachers, through their daily actions, embody this spirit of empathy and care. Whether it’s sharing a kind word or a warm smile with a lonely elderly person or striving to create a meaningful legacy, they showcase the power of compassion in their efforts.
Drawing inspiration from the Bhagavad Gita, verse 4.33,
śhreyān dravya-mayād yajñāj jñāna-yajñaḥ parantapa
sarvaṁ karmākhilaṁ pārtha jñāne parisamāpyate
This reminds us that all our actions come together in knowledge, we see the reflection of this wisdom in the lives of these devoted educators. Just like their commitment to their students, a steadfast life partner finds strength in nurturing both her own aspirations and those of her beloved. Her unwavering support during life’s challenges exemplifies not only dedication but also a profound understanding of love and growth.
Ultimately, the warmth of her smile can light up the darkest corners. What she longs for—what we all long for—is the belief in our dreams and the recognition of our own abilities. This belief is what can truly spread happiness and joy, touching lives and creating ripples of positivity throughout our communities.
